Basel is a visitor-friendly city. Packed into a small amount of space, there are treasures to discover from antiquity to modern times, and from Armani to Zimmerli. This city has much to offer: Stroll through history. Delve into art and culture in one of the excellent museums. Be transfixed by a dance or theatre performance. Wine and dine on recommendation of Gault Millau. Or go on an extended shopping spree. To the adventurous visitor, Basel offers all this and more.
Art, architecture, theatre, dance or music – Basel lives and breathes culture and entertainment. Contemporary architecture shapes the cityscape. A plethora of independent theatres clamour for attention with first-rate productions. Not to forget the city’s main venue for the performing arts, Theater Basel, that stages plays, opera and ballet. Music lovers, too, will appreciate what is on offer: from classical concerts and operas to jazz, rock and pop concerts, there is something to suit everybody’s taste. Finally, the almost forty museums devise fascinating exhibitions on topics as varied as modern painting, musical instruments, comics or the ancient world.
