The UEFA Women's Euro 2025 is in full swing, and on Tuesday, the second match day will take place in Basel with Germany playing Denmark. The project organisers are expecting over 10,000 German fans to watch the game in the stadium or in the fan zones. Kick-off for this match is at 6 p.m. German fans will be at the Messeplatz during the day with their fan bus and will set off for the stadium at 3 p.m. Danish fans will first meet at the Barfüsserplatz and will start their fan march from Münsterplatz at 3 p.m.
On Tuesday, the second group match between the German and Danish teams will be played at St. Jakob Park. The fact that the German team is playing in Basel is of particular significance for the city. On the one hand, Basel is expecting many fans from the neighbouring German region, and on the other hand, numerous ticket holders are travelling from all over Germany. ‘We are delighted to have our German neighbours in Basel and have fond memories of the great atmosphere with the German fans during Euro 2008,’ says Sabine Horvath, overall project manager for UEFA Women's Euro 2025, looking ahead to tomorrow.
Fan zones open from 11 a.m.
On match days in Basel, the fan zones will open at 11 a.m. In addition to the public viewings at Messeplatz and Barfüsserplatz, there will also be an LED wall at Theaterplatz tomorrow. The match at St. Jakob-Park will kick off at 6 p.m. The second match of the day is Poland vs. Sweden, which kicks off at 9 p.m. and will also be broadcast live at all three venues.
Fan marches start at 3 p.m. from Messeplatz and Münsterplatz
The German fans will arrive on their fan bus and will spend most of the day at Messeplatz. There will be an entertainment programme with a DJ. The fan bus will then be ready to leave at 3 p.m. and lead the fan march towards Grossbasel. Most of the Danish fans will gather at Barfüsserplatz, where there will be face painting and a DJ set with Danish songs to get everyone in the mood for the game. The Danish fan march is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. at Münsterplatz. Both fan groups will join forces on their way to St. Jakob Park in Grossbasel and march together.
Additional public transport services
As an alternative to the fan march, there are numerous public transport options available for travelling to the stadium. Special shuttle trains will run from Basel SBB to the stadium before the start of the match. The trains will run every 20 minutes from three hours before kick-off. Tram line 14 and bus line 36 will also run at increased intervals.
After the match, shuttle trains and additional trams and buses will run from the stadium. Special trains will also be provided from Basel SBB to Zurich HB, Lucerne and Bern, and from Basel Bad Bahnhof to Frankfurt and Freiburg.
Motorists should expect diversions in the St. Jakob area from 1 p.m. Access to the St. Jakob-Park car park is possible at all times via Birsstrasse, even during the match.
