Tomorrow, Sunday 13 July 2025, will mark the third match day of the UEFA Women's Euro 2025 in Basel. The national teams of the Netherlands and France will face each other at St. Jakob-Park at 9 p.m. The organisers are expecting an impressive fan march with several thousand Oranje fans and are preparing for a colourful football festival.
Thousands of fans are expected in the city centre hours before kick-off – especially supporters of the Netherlands dressed in bright orange.
‘We are preparing for a huge fan march with over 6,000 Oranje fans,’ says Sabine Horvath, overall project manager for UEFA Women's Euro 2025 Basel. ‘In addition to Dutch and French fans, many Swiss football enthusiasts are also expected to join the spectacle.’
The joint march of both fan groups will begin at 5:45 p.m. with the French fans setting off from Messeplatz. The Dutch fans will follow at 6 p.m. from Münsterplatz. Both groups will meet at the Kunstmuseum and march together towards the stadium.
Oranje fans set the mood
The Dutch fan movement is bringing a fan bus and a musical programme to Basel. A Dutch DJ duo will be creating a party atmosphere in the fan zone on Barfüsserplatz from 4.15 p.m. to 5.45 p.m. During the ‘Oranje Hour’, a Dutch presenter will take over the entertainment.
French fans will be welcomed at Messeplatz, where a welcome stand will be set up in the fan zone there.
Memories of 2008
The fact that the Netherlands team is playing in Basel brings back memories of UEFA Euro 2008, when thousands of Oranje fans transformed the city into a sea of orange – an unforgettable moment in football history. With the French team playing, numerous fans from the border region are also expected to attend. Special trains will run to Mulhouse after the match for their convenience.
Fan zones open from 11 a.m.
On match day, the fan zones will open at 11 a.m. The Netherlands vs France match will be broadcast live in both fan zones. In addition, the England vs Wales match, which is taking place at the same time, will be shown on an LED wall on Theaterplatz.
Additional public transport services
Extensive public transport services will be available to ensure that fans can travel to the stadium comfortably. From three hours before kick-off, shuttle trains will run every 20 minutes from Basel SBB railway station directly to the stadium. Tram line 14 and bus lines 36 and 47 will also run at increased intervals.
After the match, shuttle trains will run directly from Basel St. Jakob back to Basel SBB railway station, and there will be numerous additional trams and buses. Extra trains will also run from Basel SBB to Zurich HB, Winterthur, St. Gallen, Lucerne, Bern, Biel, Lausanne, Geneva and Mulhouse. This will enable guests from France and all regions of Switzerland to get home late in the evening.
