On Sunday, 27 July 2025, St. Jakob Park will be the venue for the final of the UEFA Women's Euro 2025, with defending champions England taking on world champions Spain. It is a special honour for Basel to host this highlight – not least because the two finalists will be meeting in the city for the first time. Once again, a joint fan march to the stadium will be organised with both sets of supporters.

On the final day, two of Europe's strongest national teams will face each other: England, the reigning European champions, and Spain, the reigning world champions, who have dominated the tournament with their skill and attacking play. ‘The final will see two teams coming to Basel who have not played here before,’ says Sabine Horvath, overall project manager for Host City Basel. She adds: ‘This means that eight different teams will have played in Basel by the end of the tournament.’ In the group matches and the quarter-finals, these were Switzerland, Norway, Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands and France.

Fan march with Spanish drums and English taxi

Thousands of fans are expected in the city centre hours before kick-off. Supporters of the Spanish national team will gather in the fan zone at Barfüsserplatz, where there will be a fan truck, music, entertainment, face painting and T-shirt painting. English fans will meet in the fan zone at Messeplatz.

The final will be preceded by the fan march, which has established itself as one of the most atmospheric elements of the tournament in recent weeks. The English fans will set off from the Messeplatz fan zone at 2.45 p.m., while the Spanish fans will start moving from Münsterplatz at 3 p.m. The marches will be accompanied by a black cab on the English side and drums on the Spanish side. The two groups will meet at the Kunstmuseum and continue on to St. Jakob Park together.

Due to the uncertain weather conditions, it is still unclear whether Jean Tinguely's mobile machine sculpture ‘Klamauk’ will be used during the final match. During the opening match, Klamauk came to a standstill after just a few metres due to technical problems. A decision will be made on Saturday afternoon as to whether the mobile sculpture will lead the fan march to the final match.

The programme for the final day

The fan zones on Barfüsserplatz and Messeplatz will open at 11 a.m. on Sunday. The final will be broadcast live in the fan zones and on Theaterplatz from 6 p.m. Visitors can also look forward to a varied programme of football, music, autograph sessions and dancing.

Fans from England and Spain will compete on the soccer court at Messeplatz, as will the Literatur-Nati and FC Grossrat. Presenter Jeff Baltermia will guide visitors through the day on stage at Barfüsserplatz. Plans include the presentation of the FCB women's team (2025/26 season) followed by an autograph session, a flag run with volunteers and talks with State Councillor Mustafa Atici and overall project manager Sabine Horvath.

After the broadcast of the final, there will be celebrations at Barfüsserplatz, culminating in a concert by the 15-piece Basel all-star band ‘Disco Experience’. With timeless 70s hits such as ‘We Are Family’, ‘So Excited’ and ‘Oh What a Night’, they invite young and old alike to sing, dance and celebrate together – in keeping with the spirit of a tournament that has had an impact far beyond the world of sport.
