Reunion with the teams from France and Germany

Media Release

Erziehungsdepartement

Tomorrow, Saturday 19 July 2025, Basel will host the eagerly awaited quarter-final match of the UEFA Women's Euro 2025 between France and Germany. Both teams have already played at the Joggeli stadium in the group stage and are now returning to St. Jakob-Park for the quarter-final match. The organisers are expecting large crowds and an atmospheric fan march with several thousand participants.

Thousands of fans are expected in the city centre hours before kick-off. Supporters of the French national team will gather at Barfüsserplatz, bringing French chansons and blue and white garlands with them to create a French atmosphere. German fans will arrive in a double-decker fan bus and start celebrating at Messeplatz in the early afternoon.

‘The meeting of our neighbours from France and Germany in the border triangle of Switzerland, France and Germany makes the quarter-final match something special,’ says Sabine Horvath, overall project manager for UEFA Women's Euro 2025 Basel. She adds: ‘We are preparing for an atmospheric joint fan march with several thousand fans from all three countries.’

The German fans will set off from Messeplatz at 5.45 p.m., followed by the French fans from Münsterplatz at 6 p.m. The joint fan march will bring the two groups together at the Kunstmuseum, from where they will head towards the stadium together. The fans will be accompanied by the Kantonspolizei Basel-Stadt and colleagues from the neighbouring French and German regions as part of the tri-national cooperation.

Fan zones open from 11 a.m. – public viewing on Theaterplatz

The fan zones will open at 11 a.m. and offer a varied programme for young and old. The France vs. Germany match will be broadcast live in the fan zones and on Theaterplatz. Visitors can also look forward to various attractions such as city tours, face painting, a DJ set and two performances by the band Stickstoff. Additional entertainment will be provided by the ‘Dream of Trophies’ exhibition at the Basel Historical Museum and the ‘FCB Zämme Schutte’ football activities on the soccer court.

Additional public transport

To make getting to the stadium as easy and comfortable as possible for all fans, extensive public transport services will be available. Shuttle trains will run directly from Basel SBB to the stadium from three hours before kick-off. They will run every 20 minutes. Tram line 14 and bus lines 36 and 47 will also run at increased intervals.

After the match, shuttle trains will run directly from Basel St. Jakob back to Basel SBB station, and there will be numerous additional trams and buses. Special trains will also run from Basel SBB to Zurich HB, Bern, Lucerne, Biel/Bienne, Lausanne and Mulhouse, as well as a night train to Freiburg im Breisgau. The trains will run in such a way that extra time, including penalty shoot-outs, can be taken into account. This means that guests from Germany, France and all regions of Switzerland will still be able to get home late in the evening.

Hints

Public viewing on Theaterplatz for today's Switzerland match against Spain

Today, the Swiss team will face the world champions from Spain in the quarter-finals in Bern. This is a sporting highlight from a Swiss perspective, which is why additional public viewing facilities are being set up on Theaterplatz: in addition to Barfüsserplatz and Messeplatz, the match will also be broadcast live on Theaterplatz. For deaf people, the game will be shown with subtitles in the Stadtcasino foyer.
