Women in the spotlight – on the field and on stage

The fan zones on Barfüsserplatz and Messeplatz have been open for three weeks and have become lively meeting places for locals and visitors alike. The women's soccer players will continue to dominate the program during the final week, while the spotlight on the concert stage at Barfüsserplatz will be on top-class musicians. Starting on Tuesday, there will be a total of nine concerts at Barfüsserplatz and a varied cinema program at Messeplatz on the evenings when there are no games.

From July 22 to 27, the concert series celebrating UEFA Women's Euro 2025 will bring a wide range of styles to the stage, from indie folk to electro, soul, and R&B to rap, reggae, and disco. It has been curated by Basel-based musician and cultural creator Steffi Klär and local hero Jennifer Perez, aka La Nefera, rapper, producer, and cultural networker. Together with the organizers in the host city of Basel, they have made a conscious decision to focus on the often untapped potential of women in the music business. “Many festivals have been booking the same names for years – and most of them are male,” says Jennifer Perez. “However, I know from my own experience how important it is for organizers to specifically promote diversity.” This is precisely the goal that Host City Basel is pursuing with its concert program: “We want to use this tournament to provide inspiration and are delighted to be able to put female musicians in the spotlight alongside the female soccer players,” says Sabine Horvath, overall project manager for UEFA Women's Euro 2025 in Basel, describing the concept behind the Barfüsserplatz event.
