The Basel Incentive Programme: Government Council Appoints Research Advisory Board for Research Collaborations in Life Sciences

The Basel Incentive Programme supports collaborative projects between academic research and industry with annual funding of 15 million Swiss Francs. The projects need to yield global and societal benefit. The Government Council has now appointed the members of the Research Advisory Board. The board consists of eight members and is chaired by Prof. Dr. med. Urs Frey. The Research Advisory Board will begin its work after the summer break.
Through a second partial revision of the Location Promotion Act (StaföG), the Government Council has established the framework for research collaborations in the life sciences sector. Under the funding category »Society 15 million Swiss Francs are allocated to these collaborations annually. The funding is provided to the eligible academic research partners.
Support will be given to innovative research collaboration projects aimed at improving global health.
The Government Council has appointed the following eight members to the Research Advisory Board for a four year term from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2030:
- Prof. Dr. med. Urs Frey (Chair)
- Prof. Dr. Mihaela Zavolan
- Prof. Dr. Judith Barbara Zaugg
- Prof. Dr. med. Niklaus Daniel Labhardt
- Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Falko Schlottig
- Dr. Monika Lessl
- Dr. Alexander Volker Wilhelm Mayweg
- Samuel Hess (non-voting member)
The Research Advisory Board, chaired by Prof. Dr. med. Urs Frey, will commence its activities after the summer break. The aim is to launch the first call for project proposals toward the end of 2026.
