Funding Area: Research Collaborations in Life Sciences
The Basel Incentive Programme provides funding of 15 million Swiss Francs annually to support collaborative projects between academic research and industry. The projects need to yield global and societal benefits. On this page, research partners will find all relevant information regarding financial support, application submission, and the next steps.

Submit an application
To submit an application, your organization must be registered on ePortal Basel-Stadt. To log in to the ePortal as an individual, you need an AGOV-account. You can find answers to related questions in the FAQ section below.

What qualifies for financial support?
Financial support can be granted for collaborative projects in the life sciences between academic institutions, research institutions, university hospitals and clinics in the Basel region on the one side, and research industry enterprises registered and taxable in the Canton of Basel-Stadt on the other. The strategic focus is on projects in the areas of Global Health and high-risk market environments. Projects are expected to contribute to the health and well-being of society and humanity.
Funding requirements
Global societal benefit: The research outcomes must have an impact, validity, or relevance that extends beyond national and regional borders, and affects, or may potentially affect, people worldwide.
Focus areas: Financial Support is available for projects in the two key areas of »Global Health» and »High-Risk Markets.»
Complementary cross-sectional fields: Proof-of-concept projects for new technologies and capacity-building projects in future technologies are also eligible for funding, provided they have a direct connection to one of the key areas.

How much is covered by the financial support?
A total of CHF 15 million is allocated annualy to all approved projects within the funding area.
Who can apply?
The following research partners are eligible for financial support:
- Academic institutions located in the Canton of Basel-Stadt or with cantonal sponsorship
- Research institutions with cantonal sponsorship
- University hospitals and clinics located and headquartered in the Canton of Basel-Stadt
- Non-profit research institutions located in the Canton of Basel-Stadt with a link to academic institutions
Applications are to be submitted jointly by both research and industry partners under the lead of the research partner. The industry partner must be a legal entity subject to taxation in accordance with.

The relevant legal basis is provided by the Standortförderungsgesetz, the Verordnung zum Standortförderungsgesetz (StaföG) and further information is provided in the Erläuterungen zur Teilrevision der Verordnung zum Standortförderungsgesetz vom 24.
