Basel City Market
The Basel city market on the Marktplatz is the largest and most traditional fresh produce market in the city. Almost 90 per cent of the fruit and vegetables on offer at the city market come from the immediate vicinity of Basel. This guarantees not only fresh, seasonal goods, but also short travel distances.
Fresh produce from the region in the heart of Basel
For regional producers, the city’s most traditional and biggest fresh goods market is a matter close to their hearts. Located in front of the historic City Hall (Rathaus), the market is a colourful event, offering an abundance of delicacies and specialities such as vegetables and fruits, flowers, sausages, mushrooms, honey, baked goods, tea and much more. A cup of coffee, a delicious lunch and cosy seating complete your visit to the market.
The market has a long tradition and is situated at the heart of Basel in an exclusive business area. Gourmets will find delicacies and specialities from the region and the marketeers offer personal advice.

Tuesday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Friday and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.*
*Some stands only open until 2 p.m.
No market on Sundays and public holidays.
Special Market Hours
No market during Basel Carnival from 23 February to 25 February 2026.
Limited market from 29 June to mid September 2026 due to a construction site.
Extended market days, open until 5 pm on each occasion:
- Maundy Thursday, 2 April 2026
- Thursday before Labour Day, 30 April 2026
- The Wednesday before Ascension Day, 13 May 2026
- Corpus Christi (Thursday), 4 June 2026

Mir blyybe offe – und freuen uns über Ihren Einkauf am Marktplatz
Aktuell wird die Haltestelle Marktplatz erneuert. Vom 29. Juni bis Mitte Oktober 2026 halten keine Trams am Marktplatz. Der Basler Stadtmarkt und die umliegenden Geschäfte bleiben in dieser Zeit mehrheitlich geöffnet (am 29. Juni fällt der Schlemmer-Markt aus) und werben mit der Kampagne «mir blyybe offe» sowie 2-Franken-Bons für den Stadtmarkt für den Einkauf am Marktplatz.
Anfahrt zum Marktplatz
Mit den öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln fährt man am besten bis zur Schifflände:
- Tram 6 oder 11
- Bus 33, 34, 36, 38
Shuttle-Service der BVB
Für Rollstuhlfahrende und mobilitätseingeschränkte Fahrgäste steht in der Innenstadt ab dem 29. Juni 2026 ein Shuttle-Service zur Verfügung.
- täglich von 08:30 bis 18:30 Uhr zwischen Bankverein und Claraplatz
- telefonische Bestellung unter: 061 461 00 27
- Wenn der Shuttle nicht unterwegs ist, wartet er beim Bankverein (Aeschenvorstadt 25) sowie an der Haltestelle Schifflände in der Eisengasse auf Fahrgäste. Dort kann ohne Vorbestellung eingestiegen werden.
Wo erhalte ich einen CHF 2.– Bon?
Beim Einkauf in den sechs unten aufgelisteten Unternehmen erhalten Sie ab dem 30.6.2026 einen CHF 2.– Bon* für den Basler Stadtmarkt. Der Bon ist jeweils nur in den Filialen am Marktplatz erhältlich, solange der Vorrat reicht. Pro Einkauf zu den nachfolgend genannten Bestimmungen erhalten Sie einen Bon.
- Brezelkönig, ab einem Einkaufswert von CHF 10. –
- Fielmann, beim Kauf einer Sonnenbrille (mit und ohne Korrektur)
- Globus, ab einem Einkaufswert von CHF 100. –
- Hotel Märthof, pro Übernachtung
- McDonalds, ab einem Einkaufswert von CHF 10. –
- Swisscom, ab einem Einkaufswert von CHF 50. –
Einlösen: Der Bon gilt bis am 30.9.2026 an allen Ständen des Basler Stadtmarkts und des Schlemmer-Markts auf dem Marktplatz. Es gibt keinen Mindesteinkaufswert. Eine Barauszahlung ist nicht möglich.

Basel city centre traffic concept
Market traders do not require a special access permit. The market permit is also the entry permit for the city centre and must be carried in the vehicle by the permit holder.
