The mission of the Division of External Affairs and Marketing is to strengthen the external relations of the Canton of Basel-Stadt, thus ensuring the region’s targeted representation.

It aims to establish and develop an international network of political, economic, scientific and cultural contacts, and thereby create alliances with added value for Basel. This should put Basel in a strong position when it comes to international competition and positively influence its development. In the area of international cooperation, we are committed to reducing poverty and promoting sustainable development at a global level.

Targeted communication measures and marketing campaigns by the division aim to raise awareness and cultivate the image of Basel as a business location in Switzerland and abroad. The division also contributes to the high quality of life in Basel by managing and acquiring major events and organising Basel's weekly markets, the National Day on the Rhine, the Basel Autumn Fair and the Basel Christmas market.
