Shortly after 7 p.m., between 700 and 800 people, some of them masked, gathered at Barfüsserplatz. The demonstrators wanted to march from there across the Mittlere Brücke bridge to Kleinbasel. The police, who were deployed in large numbers from all over Switzerland under bicantonal command due to the ESC, prevented this with their presence. Through repeated warnings and the mediation of the police dialogue teams, the police were able to persuade the demonstrators to turn back after a long delay.

Some of the demonstrators then made their way to Kleinbasel via the Johanniter bridge. They were stopped again with the aim of keeping them away from the festival perimeter at the exhibition center. After the demonstrators attempted to break through the police cordon, the police had to use collective measures. Between Mörsbergerstrasse and Hammerstrasse, the police blocked the remaining 500 or so demonstrators.

Around 400 people were subjected to identity checks. During the checks, unknown individuals threw firecrackers at the emergency services, injuring three police officers who were taken to hospital with suspected blast trauma. One person from the unauthorised demonstration had to be treated by the Basel-Stadt ambulance service.

The demonstration caused disruptions to public transport. Tram services through the city center were interrupted for 45 minutes and Feldbergstrasse was closed until around 4.30 o'clock.
