At the end of November, Basel is once again immersed in the Christmas spirit. The festive decorations in the city centre create a special atmosphere that transforms your Christmas shopping into a memorable experience. The Basel Christmas Market was declared the “Best Christmas Market” by “European Best Destinations”.
Barfüsserplatz Christmas Market
Numerous market stalls set up at Barfüsserplatz and around the Barfüsser Church invite you to browse for Christmas goodies. You’ll find not only Christmas tree decorations and a wide variety of gift items but also food stands where you can enjoy all sorts of delicacies in a festive setting. A large mulled-wine pyramid invites you to enjoy a hot drink, and you can try your hand at candle dipping to make a unique Christmas gift for your loved ones.

Münsterplatz Christmas Market
The Christmas market at Münsterplatz has been a highlight of Basel’s Christmas season since 2011. A magnificently decorated Christmas tree awaits you in front of the stately Basel Minster. The market stalls set up beneath trees festively decorated with glowing snowballs offer a wide range of goods, food and beverages.

The Basel Christmas Market was the first Swiss Christmas market to be named "Best Christmas Market 2021" in the online voting of the travel website "European Best Destinations". In 2022, Basel successfully took second place.
